Worship & Music
Taizé
Each week from September to June Taizé worship takes place at St Michael's. We meet at 6:30 pm when the church is decorated by candlelight and icons. We sing the Taizé chants and keep silence.
IMPORTANT NOTE: in July and August this is replaced by a Silent Half Hour from 6:30pm
The Taizé Community was formed by Brother Roger Schulz in and around the period of World War II.
It is formed by over 100 brothers of different Christian denominations and as such inspires ecumenism and unity within the Church of God.
The Community is specifically focussed upon young adults, searching for meaning in their lives.
Taizé continues to inspire people throughout the world by its powerful use of song, silence and prayer.
Some of our own church community have travelled on pilgrimage to Taizé and are keen to promote the beauty and mystery of Taizé worship.
"Since my youth, I think that I have never lost the intuition that community life could be a sign that God is love, and love alone. Gradually the conviction took shape in me that it was essential to create a community with men determined to give their whole life and who would always try to understand one another and be reconciled, a community where kindness of heart and simplicity would be at the centre of everything."
