Choir and Music

The Organist, Dr Duncan Angwin (duncan.angwin@googlemail.com) or the Director of the Choir Steve Allen (sda@rowyerboat.com), are always interested to hear from singers who would like to join the Choir at St Michael’s. The Choir robes for the 10am service on Sundays and for other special services and festivals during the year. Rehearsals are from 6.30 to 7.30pm on Thursday evenings and are normally followed by a convivial drink or two in a local hostelry. The Choir prepares a wide-range of music within the Anglican tradition and benefits from being able to call on a number of accomplished singers locally to augment its numbers for special occasions.

¯¯¯¯ St Michael's Choristers   ¯¯¯¯

If your child is coming up to 4 years old, why not introduce him or her to some fabulous music and a great singing opportunity with St Michael's Choristers. The Choristers rehearse on Thursday evenings from 5.20 to 6.30pm in term time and perform once a month during a Sunday service under the direction of Dr Alice Stainer. Please email Alice for the rehearsal and performance dates for this term.

St Michael’s is considered to have one of the best acoustics in Oxford, particularly for vocal groups.  Several ensembles have used the Church for CD recordings.  A recent review in BBC Music Magazine of a CD recorded at St Michael's said "It's helped by the glorious acoustic of an Oxford church, affording immediacy and presence".

Please do contact the Church Administrator if you would like to hire St Michael’s for rehearsals, concerts, workshops or recordings, or if the Organist you would like to play the organ.

Details of concerts and special choral services in the next few months can be found on the Events and Courses page of this website.
